How the Heck Does This Thing Work?

January 4, 2012

Lots of folks have been emailing me to ask what SLR camera to buy for themselves.  They want to take better pictures than their point-and-shoot camera allows.  I’m always happy to give recommendations, but lately I’ve been thinking to myself, “Self, that’s great!  But now that they have the camera, do they know how to use it?  How to get those “better” photos they are after?  A fancy camera will do them no good if they don’t know how to make the most of it.”  SO that’s what this is all about…a basic, no frills, camera 101 workshop to teach you what those icons on the dial mean.  What the heck is ISO?  And aperture?  And shutter speed?  And how does your light meter work?  And they all work together how?  That’s what we’ll be answering, plus any other questions you may have.

The workshop will take place at my home in East Norriton, PA on February 12 from 1-4.  Light snacks and drinks will be provided.  All you have to bring is your camera, the manual, and your inquiring mind!  I’m a Canon girl, but will have Nikon user present to help out as well.  Please don’t feel limited to those two brands…what you will learn will apply to any SLR camera.  That’s the other requirement…that you have an SLR camera!  I don’t have anything against other types of cameras, but the material we cover won’t necessarily translate well to them.

This is not a shooting intensive workshop.  It’s just to explain things, teach you a few tricks, and get you started.  If you are interested in a more advanced, hands-on experience, I plan to offer more of those sessions in the spring when we can get outside.  Please email me if you are interested and I will keep you in the loop.

Class size is limited, and spots are going to be filled on a first come, first serve basis (sorry, no holding seats!).  The cost is $75 per person…sign up now by Clicking Here!  Don’t fret if the class if full when you try to sign up.  I plan on offering this again in the near future!

WELCOME Baby Jenna

December 23, 2011

Baby Jenna was welcomed to the world right after Thanksgiving…another turkey baby!  Cara and Rob were kind enough to participate in the Belly Calendar (Yup, she’s Miss May!  And calendars are still available!), and I was so happy when they asked me to take some newborn photos of their little lady.  Congratulations on a beautiful baby girl!

SNEAK PEEK – Stephanie & Patrick {Montgomery County Wedding Photographer}

December 6, 2011

Whoops! I guess I have been MIA for a little while! Time always flies at this time of year, and this year I think that it really getaway from me. As the wedding season comes to a close, I am usually ready to refresh, regroup, and rejuvenate. The last wedding of the year is always bittersweet, with a little extra emphasis on sweet because it is, after all, a wedding!

Stephanie and Patrick were married the weekend before Thanksgiving at Saint Stanislaus in Lansdale. Their ceremony was later on a Friday, so by the time we got to the reception at Normandy Farm it was dark out and these guys were ready to party.  They took advantage of the chance to do a Day After shoot, and we met up Sunday morning in Philadelphia for some fun!  Thanks to Lauri Tripaldi of Lalee Photography for helping me out on their wedding day.  And thanks to Stephanie and Patrick for a great final wedding of 2011!

MEET Christie & Chad

November 16, 2011

Ah, the weather this year!  It was a real killer for summer beach shoots…so Christie and Chad made lemonade out of lemons, and we headed to the beach in late October instead.  Thinking warm thoughts all the way, we enjoyed having the beach to ourselves, ate some pizza (yummy Mack & Manco’s!) and wandered down the boardwalk.  These kids are tying the knot in 2012, and I can’t wait to be a witness to their big day!

SNEAK PEEK – Olivia & Conor {Chester County Wedding Photographer}

November 15, 2011

Ok, from now on when the weatherman says it’s going to snow in October, I am going to believe him!  As unprepared for it as we all may have been, it made a beautiful backdrop for Olivia and Conor’s awesome wedding day.  Olivia’s bright and cheerful colors (from the bridesmaids’ dresses to the flowers) looked great against the white blanket of snow.  These two are PRESCHOOL sweethearts, and nothing makes you believe in the path of life more than their story of weaving in and out of each other’s lives.  The People’s Light Theater was a great indoor shooting location, I loved the texture of the walls and the old wooden beams and the warm light that filled the lobby there.  Olivia and Conor braved the elements for some quick snow shots (how often do you get to see fall foliage AND fresh snow?) and then we all headed over to The Farmhouse for dinner and dancing and a generally great time!

MEET Elise & Scott {Northampton County Wedding Photographer}

November 9, 2011

I love it when a couple plans out their engagement session…they really think it through, scope out the locations they want to go to and then give me some space to be creative as well.  That’s exactly what Scott and Elise did.  We did a little walking tour of their hometown of Easton, PA…starting on their front porch, roaming around Lafayette College, and then spending some time downtown before calling it a day.  I had a great time getting to know these two, and I think that we picked the BEST foliage weekend of the season for their shoot!  Enjoy, and I’ll see you guys in 2012!

WELCOME Baby Andrew

November 8, 2011

Jaclyn and Jimmy welcomed a beautiful baby boy into the world last month, and it was my honor to be invited back into their lives to capture some moments from his first week of life at home!  These two have already made several cameos on this blog…engagement, wedding, maternity, BELLY CALENDAR (Jaclyn is Miss February!) and now this.  One of the best parts of my job is getting to share these milestones with great clients like these two…clients that I consider friends!  Congratulations, you guys.  He’s one handsome dude…

I love it when clients bring their own ideas to the shoot.  Jaclyn was planning for this pairing at her maternity shoot…

SNEAK PEEK – Jackie & Doug {Somerset County Wedding Photographer}

November 2, 2011

I met with Jackie and Doug one snowy day in January…John was out in the car with a crying Junebug (he’s such a martyr!) while I was welcomed into their cozy kitchen to talk wedding details.  I was excited when they booked, and even more excited as I drove out to the house again in late October.  They had a beautiful, intimate ceremony at Jackie’s church and then we headed off to the beautiful Neshanic Valley Golf Course for their reception.  The views from the top of the hill were breathtaking and the perfect setting for their photos.  The unique set-up of the ballroom let everyone mingle and boogie down well into the night.  Wedding success, Jackie and Doug!  Congratulations!

Thanks to Laura Briglia for coming along and shooting with me – and for this awesome shot!

MEET LeeAnn & Mike {Montgomery County Portrait Photographer}

November 1, 2011

LeeAnn and Mike are getting hitched in Pittsburgh next year, but they wanted some engagement photos here – the place where they started their lives together!  I’m so glad that LeeAnn found me.  We had some fun one evening at the end of October when the clouds were dramatic and the sun was setting.  Thanks, guys!
